I have been reading that as of Pix version 7.0 PPTP is no longer supported. can you tell me what the alternative to using PPTP would be?

You can configure IPSec VPN Client instead. It achieves the same where you connect to the PIX remotely via VPN to securely access resources behind the PIX firewall.

Here is a sample configuration for your reference:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6120/products_configuration_example09186a008060f25c.shtml

You would need to install the Cisco IPSec VPN Client on the user PC.

Hope that helps.

David,

halijenn is correct.

However IPsec VPN client requires the installation of a software client (if you can do it, this is the recommended client).

As with PPTP, you can configure L2TP using the native windows VPN client without any additional software.

Federico.

Hi halijenn,

Thanks also for your rapid response. The link will be a great help and will use it to setup remote access.

Thanks Dave.
