Relationship between ppp multink & dialer load-threshold

My question goes to the relationship between ppp multink and the dialer load-threshold command in an isdn ddr configuration. If we use ppp mutlink on the bri without dialer load-threshold will both b channels become immediately active or is this purpose of dialer-load threshold here to only activate 2nd channel per criteria established by dialer load?

Hi Steven

You need to have dialer load-threshold command configured to bring additional channel though you have configured ppp multilink.

So does this mean that 2nd b channel will never be activated in mpp config without this command? MPP config without dialer-load thresh will never use 2 channels ?

Hi Steven

Though i haven't tried yet running without threshold command ,AFAIK it doesn't fire the second channel without the command...

Actually, there's another way to bring up the 2nd b-channel without using the 'dialer load-threshold (number)' command.

R1(config)#int bri1/0

R1(config-if)#ppp multilink links minimum ?

<0-255> Specify minimum desired number of links in a bundle

R1(config-if)#ppp multilink links minimum 2

With this command in there the router would always attempt to keep a minimum of 2 b-channels active at any given time.
