Remote Access VPN connection fails when using secret 4 username password

Hello everyone,

I have created PPTP VPN for remote access but when i create username with "secret" instaead of "password"and try to connect to it a windows message pops up with error "the username and password combination is not recognized". 

any Ideas why is this happening?

1. PPTP is not much better than plaintext communication. If you want security, don't use it!
2. The user entered password gets hashed with a random sequence and is sent to the server. The server will use the same operation and needs the cleartext password for that. If the router only has the hashed password (types 4,5,8,9) this operation can't be done.
