Enabling HSRP: IP Redundancy and a Virtual IP Address

Restrictions

##### Standby priorities should be equal on both active and standby routers. If the priorities are not equal, the higher priority router will unnecessarily take over as the active router, negatively affecting uptime #####

Indeed, I "want" to be able to determine which router will take over as active for each standby group.

Is that wrong or incompatible with this feature ?

I normally have 2 standby groups per interface. Router A is active for standby group "a" and router B is active for standby group "b". Thus, load is balanced between 2 routers.

If router A fails, then B assumes active role for both standby groups. Of course, tracking is configured so inside interface on each router monitors the state of outside interface, and the other way round.

Is there any reason why I can?t decide upon standby priorities instead of the router deciding it on the basis of the IP address ?

Has anyone faced a similar scenario ?

Will appreciate any advice I can get on this topic.

Thanks in advance;

Diego.
