Unable to connect to Exchange 5.5 server with VPN

Currently running a 515R with VPN client 354 on XP clients. Get good connectivity into network resources, but constantly get "Exchange server unavailable" when attempting to connect Outlook 2002 clients over VPN. Have windows 98 clients using Safenet VPN clients connecting no problem... Have very little hair left, as have been pulling out all week. Any suggestions?

Try upgrading your client to the latest 3.6.3 release. There was a outlook issue which is still unresolved, CSCdv67594, but another issue CSCdu36579 was resolved by 3.6. You might also try connecting with your vpn client first before bringing up outlook. Once your vpn connection is established, then launch outlook.

Thanks for the reply, Kurtis

I was using 354 on the recommendation of a Cisco tech, but will try on your advice... Also, I do connect vpn before attempting th launch outlook...

Not sure if you still have a problem, but...

Have you tried to changing the Outlook Client so that it does NOT use the Logon Network Security? (To check this, Right click the Outlook Icon and go to properties- Select the MS Exchange server and click the properties button. Then select the Advanced tab, and set the Logon Network Security to NONE.) This will prompt the Outlook client to provide the NT domain authentication info - username; domain; password - rather than trying to take it from the OS.

I had this same problem and this is what I did to resolve it. There may be a more elegant solution, but I am unaware of it.

Hope this helps... cholmes@emsclad.com
