VPN and Internet connection sharing

I have VPN set up, and if I dial in directly through my ISP, it works.

However, at home I have broadband connected into a desktop (windows xp) and share the connection to the laptop. VPN doesn't seem to work. It will connect, but won't let me see any servers. Any ideas? Can VPN run over a shared internet connection?

Go to:

Start | Settings | Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services

Look for ICS (Internet Connection Sharing and Firewall). See if the service is set to 'automatic'. If so, it's probably starting up each time you reboot the machine. Also, if 'play' button at the top of the screen is greyed out, it means the service is running. The startup type needs to be set to 'disabled'.
