Hi,
We have replaced our Microsoft Tunnel (PPTP) with the Cisco VPN client for remote access into our facility. There seems to be one glitch, however. With the Microsoft Tunnel, I could configure a software firewall (Norton IS/Firewall) to "trust" addresses from the PPTP adapter. It worked fine in that the normal filtering would not take place. With the VPN client, however, this doesn't work. The firewall treats the addresses as if they were not trusted and puts them through the filtering rules. This means that NETBIOS name lookups fail and some applications won't properly start. Attempting to put a rule by IP address permitting this type of traffic is ignored. Turning off the firewall solves the problem. I wondered if anyone had any explanation for this and perhaps any suggestion on how to get around it... the Norton logs show that packets are properly recognized with expected source and destination IP addresses so it is extremely puzzling whatever is going on.
Thanks,
John G. Ata
