Hi,

Did anybody hear about using of VPN in the banking sector? First of all it would be interesting to use this technology for connecting branches, different buildings (bank offices in Frankfurt are usually spread over 20 buildings) and maybe using this in trasporting payment transactions.

Is VPN good enough (secure, reliable, quick, resistant against denial of service attack ) for that?

Are Visa or MasterCard networks better than VPN today?

Who can help me?

Zbig

I am implimenting and IP VPN which will have all the requirements that you require, as standard. I am in the selection process of finding a capable service provider, that can build this intra-network. One of our key requirements is taht we have a clear management structure. We need to know what is happening in the network that we are paying for. There are a few people that I am talking to one of which is a Teir 1 service provider that, that is actively speaking to financial institutions about the benefits to them for an IP VPN. For Banks VPN's can give a lot of flexible for growth as well as strong security.

My background is from the banking industry and I know that they are scared of security breaches.

They service providers that I think that you should speak is EBone. If you do not really what them involved ask them for their White paper by TARIFICA entitled - IP VPN - A Natural Evolution in Corporate Networking. Also check out this cisco Link: http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/779/largeent/learn/technologies/VPNs.html

I hope this gives you some ideas.
