VPN performance and amount of memory in ISR

Hello,

I am wondering if it is worth to buy additional memory for our 2811 routers. 2811 router comes with 256MB of memory and an embedded VPN moudule. We upgrade the IOS image to Advanced IP services in order to use L2TPv3.

I believe that the 2811 router can take up to 768MB of memory.

Will additional memory upgrade in 2811 increase throughput in the L2TPv3 or VPN?

The 2821 and 2851 routers all come with 256 MB of memory and they can be upgraded to 1GB of memory. Is the published benchmark assuming that the router is loaded with the default or the maximum amount of memory?

I do not seem to find relationship between the amount of memory and VPN performance. Is there any published document on the topics out there?

Thanks.

Donald

Hi

You can refer the datasheets for more info on how much max memory each platform can support..

As far as performance on vpns are concerned you can make use of AIM modules but those will be effective when you are having ipsec tunnels configured in your router..
