Roaming Client always on for internal network

We have some MacOS devices that can only be identified via “roaming computer” identity.  The MacBook works perfect remotely (ex. Correctly being identified and matched to its correct policy), but not at all when on the internal network .  Is there a way to turn-off the Virtual Appliance and enable the Umbrella Roaming Client to remain turned-on while on the internal network?

Assuming this is a DNS deployment, in the dashboard you can disable "Backoff Behind Virtual Appliance"

See https://docs.umbrella.com/deployment-umbrella/docs/roaming-computer-settings-1 for docs

Thank you for the response.

If the “DNS Backoff” Settings is DISABLED, what will happen to "roaming devices" that are on-premises?  Will the DNS resolve inside the VA or will it resolve in the local DNS?

if it is disabled the roaming device will establish a direct connection to Umbrella cloud for all DNS queries except the local domains that are defined here. Any local domains defined there will go to the local DNS server (what is provided manually or by DHCP).
