Hi,

We have 2 x WSA S690 physical devices on premise.

Looking to use the virtual version of these (VM); my question is, can we download the VM and just convert the license over for these instead of our physical ones?

Hello ,

I would like to inform you that the virtual WSA software can be found on the main Cisco website http://software.cisco.com/download/navigator.html.
Downloads Home > Products > Security > Web Security Cisco > Web Security Virtual Appliance > IronPort Manufacturing- AsyncOS for WSA

Direct Link: https://software.cisco.com/download/home/284806698/type/282975114/release/

Once you have downloaded the image, please share the Serial number of the Physical appliance and the VLN number of the Virtual Appliance with the Cisco Licensing team and they will be able to help generate licenses for you.

After the licenses are transferred, follow the below steps to save the configuration file from the physical appliance and load it into the virtual appliance.

Assuming your physical WSA being replaced is WSA X and the virtual WSA is WSA Y.

1. Ensure that your WSA X and WSA Y are on the same Async OS Version.

2. Save the configuration of WSA X by making sure the passwords are unmasked.

3. Next, go the WSA GUI of your WSA Y and ensure to complete all the settings under the Network Tab.

4. Next, save the configuration of WSA Y by making sure the passwords are unmasked.

5. Open both the configuration files in a tool such as Notepad ++ so that your configuration file text formatting are preserved.

6. Next, copy the entire configuration from WSA X starting with the following banner to the end of the file -

******************************************************************************

* System Configuration *

******************************************************************************

7. Next navigate to the configuration of WSA Y and delete its configuration text starting with the following banner to the end of the file -

******************************************************************************

* System Configuration *

******************************************************************************

8. Next, paste the text copied from the configuration of WSA X in Step 6 to the configuration of WSA Y.

9. Save this edited configuration Y.

10. Upload this saved configuration to the new WSA Y.

11. Once this is done, you have effectively copied the entire configuration from WSA X to the WSA Y and at the same time you have retained the Network settings of the WSA Y.

General Instructions -

To save configuration:

* System Administration > Configuration File.

* In the "Current Configuration" section click on the radio button next to "Download file to local computer to view or save".

* Take out the check mark on "Mask passwords in the Configuration Files".

* Save the file to a safe place or your desktop for later use.

To load configuration:

* Go to WSA GUI > System Administration > Configuration File.

* In the "Load Configuration" section".

* Click on the radio button next to "Load a configuration file from local computer:" and then click on the browse button.

* Locate the file you saved from the above instructions and click "open"

* Finally click on "Load" button.

Also, please find attached the user guide for the Virtual Web Security Appliance:

I hope the above information helps.
