therefore when trying to connect from a joined computer I am able to authenticate because ironport is resolvable to ironport.mydomain.com
however any other nonjoined pc connot convert ironport to IP because it cannot append mydomain.com in order to resolve it,

If your non-doman users receive IPs via dhcp, you could push the search domain via DHCP , to point to domain.com

Hi,
You can configure the Identity to "Enforce Authentication Prompt" If transparent user identification fails option so that you should be provided and HTTP authentication prompt if the user Identification fails.
For more information, you can go to
Understanding Transparent User Identification section in the WSA User guide at
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/wsa/wsa7.5/user_guide/WSA_7.5.0_UserGuide.pdf
For further assistance on pre-production issues, you can open a case at http://www.cisco.com/web/partners/tools/pdihd.html
