Protocol handler for outgoing calls from Webex desktop application

We are facing issues while using the protocol handler for outgoing calls from Webex desktop application. The protocol handler we are using in a web browser is webex (for example: webex:(phone number)) and it results only in opening the Webex desktop application, but the phone number is not called.

The Webex app is set as a default for the webex protocol handler:

Additionally, we have tried using a different protocol handler for another feature (creating a space), and that one launches it correctly. Could it be that we are missing some additional setup?
