Of course I tried the logical way, then searched the help site, but I can't add a simple contact: the Add button is greyed-out. It doesn't search by name either.
Am I doing something wrong?

The search will look for people within your organization, or people you've chatted with before in Webex. To add someone else, click the "Add custom contact" link. It's all detailed here:

If I do this I get a "Email already belongs to an existing Webex user" message.

Thanks @Wade H.
The info about searching the company-directory (Exchange GAL or AD etc) make it a bit easier to understand but I think that there is still some room for improvement since this enterprise-level infrastructure are not available to everyone...
I miss options to connect to my Google-account (Mail, Contacts, Calendar - non G-Suite..) for example.

@C3 I agree, this is very confusing since it lists only contacts you already have in your "chat-list".
It seems pointless to add contacts you already have in your Webex. On a smartphone the app offers contacts from the device-contact-list, at least.
I guess you may try to click on "create custom contact" , right above "Family".
