The All-New Webex: Explaining the name change

Today, Cisco announced the all new Webex, created to help bring 10x better experiences than in-person meetings to life.

Now, you might be sitting there wondering, "Hmm..Webex Teams is now Webex? What's going on?

Well, Webex Teams was conceived and led as a messaging app with calling and meetings as secondary functions. As we’ve evolved Webex and brought together the full meetings and calling capabilities, we want to represent the all new Webex with the full power of the Webex platform. So, now, it’s simply Webex

We’ve renamed Webex Teams, but don’t worry, you’re still getting everything you got with Webex Teams and more. Both the desktop and mobile app names are getting updated in this month’s release, but the logo stays the same.

Here are a couple of resources that might help:

WebexOne blog series: feature breakdowns, along with links to all of the resources that help build out the Webex name
The New Webex: what it is, how to use it, and how to make the move

Further details and resources can be found on essentials.webex.com.

Hi @kndskelton ,
Thanks for posting your question here! Although I am not an expert on our devices, I do have an answer to two of your questions.
- Is it proprietary? No
- Will it work with other conference platforms? Yes. (Zoom, MS Teams, Google personally tested successfully ) macOS and windows

- The price for this device is yet to be released. I can update this thread when it is released.

I am curious about this and the announcement of the Cisco Webex USB Camera. Trying to obtain pricing and differences between this and a regular webcam. Also.. is it proprietary? Can it be used with other conferencing apps? Kind of reminds me of the Polycom Via Cam that was proprietary.. years ago!

The "All new Webex" is really just the same old "Webex Teams" with a new name. A lot of the really awesome features that have been announced are targeted at the Webex Meetings app, and are still not available in the "new" Webex. Cisco keeps talking about the "single platform advantage" but we are still working with 2 disparate platforms. I saw a lot of people asking the question during the event, "when will this be available?", and the canned answers were "you can download the all new Webex today!" (still just the rebranded Teams app). Can any details be shared on when these 2 apps are truly expected to be consolidated on a single platform? It really kills the user experience having to use both apps and users are not clear on when to use one over the other, or why certain options are available in one but not the other. My understanding is that the plan is to bring these apps together, which is the experience we were sold on a year ago, but the progress seems to be rather slow and Cisco has been very tight-lipped about roadmap timelines.

The newly announced features look awesome, they just really need to be consolidated on a single platform to truly provide a "10X" better experience. Looking forward to any additional feedback that can be provided. Thanks.
