WebEx Mac Client Changes - 43.4.0.25959

The recent changes to the Mac OS client (v 43.4.0.25959) are not appreciated and were poorly communicated.

Issues:

  1. When the latest update restarts the client, the client icon remains in the dock - but lacks the dot indicating that it is running. So users will click on the icon in the dock to launch Webex only to have the window appear.
  2. The menus in the menu bar don't change to reflect the WebEx application - they remain showing menus for whatever app the user was in previously.
  3. There's a new menu icon for Webex! If the user notices the new Webex icon in the menu bar and clicks on it, selects show window - does the menus appear and the icon in the dock shows that app is active.
  4. Closing the WebEx window removes the dot from the app in the dock
  5. Command-Tab (app switching) doesn't allow you to select WebEx if it's now hidden again (WebEx Menu -> Show Window)

This change is universally not welcomed by macOS users as it breaks how users normally use WebEx.

I am able to confirm that this is not an issue caused by the client or Webex application installed on macOS. This behavior is in fact happening due to a calling setting in Control Hub called "Hide Webex windows". Like others, I originally thought this issue was just local to my older TouchBar Mac and decided to almost live with it but was able to find this setting buried in Control Hub. In Control Hub this setting can be toggled on/off for an individual user or can be toggled on/off org wide.

Here's the solution:

INDIVIDUAL USER SETTING CHANGE STEPS:

1. From the Control Hub Overview > Left column: Management - Users > Search/Select specific user > Calling Tab > Scroll Down and Click MS Teams integration > Hide Webex Windows > Toggle that setting OFF.

2. From the macOS Webex app: Click Help in the macOS menu bar > Health Checker > Click Database Reset in bottom left corner > Click Yes to clear your database and restart Webex > Sign-in (You must do this step for the change to take effect)

ORG WIDE SETTING CHANGE STEPS:

1. From the Control Hub Overview > Left column: Services - Calling > Client Settings Tab > Scroll Down to MS Teams integration > Toggle OFF Hide Webex Windows

2. From the macOS Webex app: Click Help in the macOS menu bar > Health Checker > Click Database Reset in bottom left corner > Click Yes to clear your database and restart Webex > Sign-in (You must do this step for the change to take effect)

hello. @ThPreSA11

Sadly I'm currently being hit with this... shall we call it a bug?

I've tried everything imaginable - ran the uninstaller tool and reinstalled client, nope, still have the bug. Then I manually uninstalled and reinstalled the client, nope, still buggin.

It's truly driving me mad.

I'm really hoping you found a resolution to this issue. I'm currently running macOS client (v 44.1.0.28423) on 2022 13" M2 TouchBar MacBook Pro macOS Ventura 13.6.3.

Hi @ThPreSA11 ,

Maybe it is something that gets turned on region by region. I still see:

and hope that it NEVER changes to the behaviour that you describe. I'm running Ventura 13.3.1 on a M1 MBP

Admittedly I’m on a newer 42.5 beta build but I do not experience those issues. (I’m also unclear what you mean by a new menu bar icon.)

Since I do not see those items listed as expected changes on the What’s New page, I’d treat them as defects and open a TAC case.

If it was something our local admins just turned on, then I know where to lay blame for communicating changes. I hadn't seen the icon before nor a change in application behavior like this.
