Overview
Ribbon Session Border Controllers (SBCs) are used to connect a corporate Webex Calling environment to a telecom provider for voice connectivity. Ribbon SBCs act as a firewall for the voice network, ensuring bad actors do not infiltrate the network or commit acts of fraud. Ribbon SBCs are also useful in connecting legacy trunks (such as PRIs or analog lines) into the Webex Calling environment – an effective tool for business continuity implementations.
Vertical/Industry Alignment
Ribbon SBCs can support many industry verticals. Verticals that commonly deploy SBCs include:

Webex Environment Alignment
Ribbon SBCs can be deployed in either an on-premises hardware configuration or a software-only virtualized environment.

- The Ribbon SBC Core (SBC 5000 series, SBC 7000, SBC SWe) is certified for use in Cisco Webex Local Gateway deployments.
- The Ribbon SBC Edge (SBC 1000, SBC 2000 and SBC SWeEdge) is certified for use in Cisco Webex Local Gateway deployments.
