Core Issue

This document applies when Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) is configured on the network, and handheld devices without machine authentication capability are added. It is also applicable if user authentication is not used.

Resolution

Wi-Fi Protected Access-Pre-Shared Key (WPA-PSK) could be an option for Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) and other handheld devices. You can also configure VLANS and multiple Security Set Identifiers (SSIDs) in order to make the PDAs connect to another security scheme.

If WPA is configured on the network and you need to add handheld devices or PDAs that do not have machine authentication capability, WPA-PSK could be an option. Another option is to configure a separate VLAN in order to make the PDAs connect to other security options, and configure multiple SSIDs.
