1240 Light weight Access point is configured for Layer 2 mode
Resolution
Only the 1000 Series and 1500 Series APs support Layer 2 mode. This is why the 1240 does not join the controller and only attempts the Layer 3 discover/join process. You need to either configure Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) option 43 to point to the management interface IP address or Domain Name System (DNS) resolution of CISCO-LWAPP-CONTROLLER.
