Resolution
The throughput for 802.11g AP having only 802.11g clients (without 802.11b clients) connected is about 22 Mbps. This value assumes optimal radio configuration.
The throughput for 802.11g clients to 802.11g AP radios drops to about 8 Mbps when 802.11b clients also use the 802.11g Access Point (AP) with Request to Send/Clear to Send (RTC/CTS).
The throughput for 802.11g clients to 802.11g AP radios drops to about 14 Mbps when 802.11b clients also use the 802.11g AP with Request to Send to Self (RTC to Self).
Note: RTS/CTS or CTS to Self is required to make 802.11 b clients recognize the presence of 802.11 g stations. So amount of data sent per second is significantly reduced due to overhead of CTS to Self or RTS/CTS. Also considering the shared nature of wireless medium where stations compete for the medium this decrease in throughput is the expected result.
