Hi 1PerfectPoet,

My name is Andrew Lien, and I am a content developer for the Cisco Knowledge base. According to your part number, the name of your WAP might be the VEN401. This forum reply will be consistent with most current Cisco Small Business WAP configurations, but I will also mention what to do for the VEN401.  I can lead you the steps of how to "put it back to default" in accordance to most Cisco based wireless access points.

1) If there is a way to hard reset your device, while the device is turned on, hold down the hardware reset button for more than 15 seconds. Below is an example picture of where a typical hardware reset button can be found:

2) Connect the Ethernet cord to the device.

3) Find the name of your wireless access point and connect to it. When you hardware reset, you should be able to connect without a password. Judging from your part number, it seems like you have the VEN401? Your SSID might be Cisco_XXXXXXXX where the X's are numbers and letters. Here's where things get a little tricky.

4) Now that you've accessed the wireless, you'd need to create a password for it. Log in to its web configuration utility to change your username and password. To do that, please refer to the following article:

Using Windows Command Prompt to Determine the IP Address of a Connected Device

Follow steps 1,2,3 and 6 to find the IP Address of your default gateway, which you can use to put in your web browser to log in.

5) In most wireless access points, you will need to log in using a default username and password. Usually it's either:

username: cisco

password: cisco

or

username: admin

password: admin

or a variation of the two.

For your device in particular, I have found that the default username may be:

Default login user: ATTadmin

and the default password may be:

Default login password: 401!VEN

So you can give that a try.

6) Once you've logged in, you can use the Setup tab to setup your device and follow the instructions there for wireless access, or  you can navigate through the management utility that suits your need (like Wireless -> Basic Settings)

I hope this helps guide you in the right direction.
