Need assistance with WAP4410n repeater setup

I currently have two WAP4410n access points.  The primary is connected to my network switch (Catalyst 2900XL), the repeater WAP needs to run on the same channel and SSID as the primary, and is purely being used to extend the range of the primary so users can have full access to this WLAN throughout the floor. If this works, I'll add a third as well.

I'm running on channel 6 B/G/N mixed mode with WPA personal-AES. My preference was to run Wireless Client repeater, which appeared to work, though would drop clients every few minutes, and a constant ping to that WAP address through the LAN would show it stops responding periodically as well.

Now I switched to try running Wireless WDS repeater mode and I seem to be unable to get the WDS WAP to connect to the primary.

-I'm Running 2.0.4.2 firmware on both

-On the Primary, I added the MAC address of the repeater to the list to allow signal repeating

-Both have same SSID and channel.

UPDATE:  I gave up on WDS and went back to Wireless Client repeater mode. Seems to work briefly , then drop clients every few minutes...

Any ideas?

-Tony

Hi, My name is Eric Moyers. I am a Network Support Engineer in the Cisco Small Business Support Center. Thank you for using the Cisco Community Post Forums.

I can give you the way that this should be setup as Wireless Client/ Repeater and with WDS Repeater.

For both scenarios, configure them with both WAPs in the same room. This will save on movement and make configuration and testing faster.

For Wireless Client Repeater:

Put the main AP in Access Point mode and check the "allow wireless signal to be repeated" box.(Make note of the MAC Address at the top of the screen. This is the Wireless MAC and is different than the MAC on the outside of the Unit.)

Go to the Remote AP and put this AP in Wireless Client Repeater. Check the "allow wireless station to associate" box.

Now do a site survey, Find the SSID that you are wanting to repeat and select and save it. Check the SSID and MAC and make sure they match up with what you are repeating. (Make note of the MAC Address at the top of the screen.)

Go back to the Main AP and make sure that the MAC Address from the Remote AP is input into the MAC 1 field.

Test Wireless Connection.

For Wireless Client Repeater:

Put the main AP in Access Point mode and check the "allow wireless signal to be repeated" box.(Make note of the MAC Address at the top of the screen. This is the Wireless MAC and is different than the MAC on the outside of the Unit.)

Go to the Remote AP and put this AP in WDS Wireless Repeater.

Now do a site survey, Find the SSID that you are wanting to repeat and select and save it. Check the MAC and make sure it matches up with what you are repeating. (Make note of the MAC Address at the top of the screen.)

Go back to the Main AP and make sure that the MAC Address from the Remote AP is input into the MAC 1 field.

Test Wireless Connection.

If neither of the setups work for you, I would then suggest you call into our Small Business Support Center and let one of our Support Engineers work with you.

Thanks
