Hi,
As I know, when open dual radio on some Cisco's AP, and configure one dual wireless client associate with the AP, the AP will use 5GHz for wireless client to associate first.
Does somebody know this technical or function name?
I'm looking for the AP which has this kind of function.
Thanks.
Walter

My name Eric Moyers. I am an Engineer in the Small Business Support Center.
Thank you for your question.
I am not 100% sure of what your asking. The only function within Small Business Access Points that comes close to what you mention, would be something like QoS. But that is just within the 2.4 or 5 GHz band. Not selecting one band over another.
Within our Small Business Dual Band APs we offer both bands but have no control to push a client to one versus another. That could be something with a Wireless LAN Controller maybe, but we do not have any APs within Cisco Small Business that work with WLC's as of now.
If you would like to further describe what you are looking for or provide and example, I am more than happy to try and find a suitable product for you.

Hi Eric Moyers,
Thanks for your reply.
Sorry about describe not clearly.
For example:
1. Enable 2.4G and 5G on an AP, and configure both SSID on these 2 band with the same SSID "ciscosb" and security "WPA2-AES".
2. Configure a dual band wireless card to associate with an SSID "ciscosb". (specify the SSID in the profile)
3. AP will be associated via 5G band.
So 5G can has high priority to be used. Is this new design? or base on chip?
I have used WAP561 to perform the steps, but WAP561 was associated via 5G or 2.4G randomly.

Thank you for the clarification.
What your describing is not an available function within our Small Business Access Points. It sounds more like something that would have to be on the Clients NICs.
I assume the coding would be done within the firmware of the NIC to look for 5Ghz signal if none available use 2.4.

Hello Walter,
I am coming back to you with my head held low. After digging a little more and talking with another of my fellow engineers (Thanks Jelon), I have found more information on your question.
The functionality that you are asking about, in our small business products is called Band Steering. It is currently only available on our WAP371. Here is a link to the WAP371 emulator so that you can see.
http://www.cisco.com/assets/sol/sb/WAP371_Emulators/WAP371_Emulator_v1-0-1-5/main.html
Also here is a link to the Administration Guide.

The Band Steer is talked about on page 97.
I am sorry that I did not know this information when I first talked with you. But I hope this new information is of use to you.
