I'm trying to factory reset an AIR-LAP1142N-A-K9 AP. I'm connected via console port. I tried to follow instructions of:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To reset the AP, try these steps:
Step 1 Disconnect power from access point.
Step 2 Press and hold MODE button while you reconnect power to the access point.
Step 3 Hold the MODE button until the status LED turns amber, and release the button.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As I continue holding the MODE button, an amber light never appears, but rather there is first a flashing blue light for about 20 seconds, then the light turns to a flashing red. As I understand, the amber light should appear just after about 3 seconds. Did I misunderstand something? Thanks in advance.

Hello,
The mode button you must hold at least for 20 seconds (I think), but if you have console connection you will see something like "mode button pressed, waiting for release". Then you can release button.
You mustn´t have connected cable in FastEthernet port. Otherwise IOS recovery will start with default parameters.
So then you should be placed into rommon mode (ap:)
then you should type command: flash_init
then look on files in FLASH: with command: dir flash:
and if FLASH: contain file config.txt use command: delete flash:config.txt.
Then you can boot AP with "boot" command.
AP after boot will still require password but now you can use "Cisco" and it should work.
Do not use TAB key in rommon mode!
