1310 Root Bridge with ARP cache enabled

Try this. Setup bridge link between two 1300's with computers hanging off both ends. Turn on ARP cache on the root bridge (not an option on non root). Try ping from the root computer to the non root computer. Bet you can't! You can ping the non root bridge but not the computer hanging off it. If you ping from the non root computer to the root computer you will now be able to ping the non root but only for a few minutes and then it goes back to no pinging.

Turn off ARP cache on the root bridge and you will now be able to ping the non root computer.

Should ARP cacheing be an option in root bridge mode? I could understand it in "Root AP" mode but not root bridge mode.

Any thoughts?

There is not need to configure the bridge as a root AP. Just keep the root bridge config and it will be able to accept incoming client for Access Point capabilities.

The below URL has some explanation on how would the WEP keys take effect on the network.

Using VLAN (concept)

Configuring VLAN

The important things on implementing this:

- One SSID per VLAN

- Native VLANs SSID will be used to connect from non-root to root bridge

- Security Settings can be different per SSID

Thanks for your reply smahbub but I think you missed the point. This does not involve any wireless clients at all.

Link a Root bridge to a NonRoot bridge. Turn on ARP Cache on the Root Bridge. You will not be able to ping anything physically (CAT5) attached to the NonRoot bridge whether it's a single client with a crossover or a switch.

Turn off ARP cache and all is well. Again there are no wireless clients. This is a bridge to bridge secure link!

Thanks
