Hi,
We have 5 3702e AP connected to a 3850. Four of the APs have registered properly, the fifth one will not stop attempting to download the IOS version from the WLC. Even when I shut the port on which the AP is connected and (sh ap sum) the fifth AP appears and prompts DOWNLOADING
AP Name AP Model Ethernet MAC Radio MAC State
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AP88f0.31f4.120c 3702E 88f0.31f4.120c 88f0.31f4.1200 Downloading
These are the only logs that the 3850 reports when the AP is on
*%CAPWAP-3-INVALID_STATE_EVENT: 1 wcm: Invalid AP event (CAPWAP Discovery Request) and state (CAPWAP Join Response) combination[...It occurred 2 times/sec!.]
%IOSXE-7-PLATFORM: 1 process wcm: System has been upgrading Radio SW for more than 30 minutes.
%OSAPI-0-RAD_SW_UPGRADE: 1 wcm: System has been upgrading Radio SW for more than 30 minutes.
I reset the AP by holding the mode button and the error still persists.

Pls attach the AP console output while it is booting & trying to register to your 3850 WLC

can you try resetting the AP and installing a new recovery image from cisco.com?
then just download it on your AP using tftp
AP# archive download /force-reload /over tftp://

I also faced the same issue. Identified that all the access point which is not registering into WLC is connected to same switch(3850). I physically changed the connectivity to another switch. After that it is automatically registering into WLC. So I suspect some bug in the switch ios. I upgrade switch ios from 16.4.4a to 16.06.8. after that i connected AP back to the first switch. After that its is working smoothly.
