hi,

i need to deploy 2x APs for a small site. my questions are:

1) if i deploy these APs for mobility express, do i only need 1x AIR-AP1851E-x-K9C to act as WLC and AIR-AP1852E-x-K9 as subordinate AP? or do i need both to be as AIR-AP1851E-x-K9C? if i need to add more AP do i order AIR-AP1852E-x-K9 only or any LAP model can be a subordinate AP?

2) do i need these parts? i think they're licenses. which one do i need to avail?

SW1850-CAPWAP-K9

SW1850-MECPWP-K9

sorry i'm quite new to mobility express and my google redirects me to complex cisco guides.

K9C means Mobility Express.

thanks pre!

how about my other questions:

do i need both to be as AIR-AP1851E-x-K9C?

if i need to add more AP do i order AIR-AP1852E-x-K9 only or any LAP model can be a subordinate AP?

i.e. if i buy 10 AIR-AP1851E-x-K9C, and the master AP failed, i can still configure one of the other 9x as master.

2) do i need these parts? i think they're licenses. which one do i need to avail?

- i think these are bundled software that came with the AP. i saw both are $0.

do i need both to be as AIR-AP1851E-x-K9C?

This will be complicated.  You can't run both as ME.  One will have to be an ME and the other will have to run controller-based IOS.

I am not sure about the licenses for the ME.

just to be clear, if i have a site that requires 10x 1851 APs i would need:

1x AIR-AP1851E-x-K9C

9x AIR-AP1852E-x-K9

cause i was thinking to get 10x AIR-AP1851E-x-K9C so if the master ap fails, i can still configure the other 9x as master. is my thinking correct?

do you have a link (or snippet from cisco guide) that will support your post above?

Cisco Mobility Express Deployment Guide

Pre, have a read first of what ME can and can't do.  For 10 APs, I'd rather get a 2504.  If you can wait for a few months, the new 3504 will be out.

well, 2504 or any WLC is out of the budget.

i think we can get a lot of 10x AIR-AP1851E-x-K9C and configure 1x as master AP and 1x as master ap failover.

i'll just lab this up (get 2x K9Cs) before deploying in production :)

Master AP Failover

To have redundancy in the Mobility Express network, it must have two or more Cisco 1800 series Access Points. These Access Points should have AP Image type as MOBILITY EXPRESS IMAGE and AP Configuration as MOBILITY EXPRESS CAPABLE. In an event of a failure of Master AP, another Cisco 1800 series AP is elected as a Master automatically. The newly elected Master AP has the same IP and configuration as the original Master AP.
