Hi,
Our 1200 series doesn't appear to be broadcasting the SSID, even though the box is ticked.
We have 3 other small AP's from another company elsewhere in the building which all broadcast the SSID, which means we can just 'plug-and-play' a new machine. We plug it in, run Ghost, and it works fine.
However, pcs in the 1200 location have to be connected to the LAN via a cable to run Ghost, and we have to run the w/less card config to set the SSID, then restart, before they will work.
Any ideas?
All the w/less cards in the building (approx 50) are D-Link G520's.
TIA,
Peter.

If you telnet to the AP, login, and do a "sh run," you should see a command relating to "guest mode."
If you see "guest mode," the AP is probably (should be) broadcasting the SSID.
It might also be something like having "Cisco Extensions" anabled or having the button in the radio interface screen set to "Maximize Throughput" (which can make the AP incompatible with some non-Cisco NICs, according to the release notes of some IOS versions) - a safe (and more compatible) setting is "default."
Check it out and let us know.
Good Luck
Scott

Thanks Scott.
There's no mention of guest mode in sh-run. Heres the output:

Broadcast SSID in Beacon: True
Optimize Radio Network for: Throughput
Aironet Extensions: Enable
What do you suggest first/next?
Unfortunately, we break up today until the new year, so unless anyone posts again within the next 5 hours, I can't do anything more till then.
Merry Christmas / Happy New Year to all who read this :)
Peter.

Add the following under your SSID:
ssid
authentication open <------------Whatever
authentication key-management wpa <------whatever
guest-mode <---ADD THIS
wpa ......
You DO NOT want to "Maximize for Throughput" for maximum compatibility with non-Cisco NICs.
You (probably) DO NOT want Cisco Extensions Enabled (I've gotten mixed information on this, not sure if it's significant).
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year!
Good Luck

Hi Scott,
Happy New Year to you.
I'll have a look at the settings as you mentioned and get back to you if I need to.
Thanks.
Peter.
