Hi,
A customer would like to use AP2600 and AP2700 running autonomous mode in the same building. My concern is that roaming will not work correctly. Would they need a WLC for the AP2600 and AP2700 to work together?

Lets just say it will work much better if you use a WLC.
You could use a WLC 2504 - but a newer 3504 is on the verge of being released. So if you are not in a hurry, sit tight for a short time.

Alternatively, 2600 & 2700 can be supported using Cisco Mobility Express.

Hello Davi,
AP2600 & AP2700 mixed environment
WLC is required for the AP2600 and AP2700 to work together.

There is also an alternative called WDS which can be used with IOS based autonomous access-points, it is not that widely adopted though.
The topic starter refers to roaming issues and end-points will, as long as the SSID and security configurations match, certainly roam between two autonomous access-points once the roaming threshold has been reached. For a seamless roam the same VLAN need to be used on both access-points.
Depending on the used authentication mechanism WDS or a WLC can provide in a shorter roaming time compared to regular autonomous access-points. In addition the controller provides in software and configuration management and a stable point-of-presence for the end-point from wired point of view (no flapping MAC addresses).
