Does Sleeping Mode effect performance?

Hello,

After enabling WebAuth authentication with custom page and change sleeping Mode to 12 hours, I have noticed some lag in the performance and redirection takes hell of time to redirect to page and accessing some web servers internally it takes also time for the page to load.

Also noticed in some of the areas where we have 7 or 8 Access points there are AP with 22 clients and some APs max of 1 ~ 3 clients. Couple of time I have noticed this issue.

Is there something that can be done to roll out this issue?

I haven't heard of any issues like that.  The only way you can rule it out in your environment is to disable sleeping client.  There is no way WebAuth alone can slow performance.

I totaly agree with Scott. There is no way webauth alone can slow the performence.

The issue occurs at random or we face it constantly.

The clients are connecting on which Radio - a or b.

What data rates are set to mandatory, supported and disabled on the concerned radio.

Are we using AP Groups.

It depends on the Client and the AP to choose the best available Access point to establish the wireless connection.

There are many factors which effect the connectivity eg Client Drivers, SNR, RSSI, RF, Antennas used by the AP.

So it is a normal behaviour if we see an AP with 22 clients and some APs max of 1 ~ 3 clients.

Hello Singh,

Yes there are AP Groups and all the APs are under one group as we are broadcasting the three SSIDs in whole campus. Majority of the clients laptops are same modle/hardware/configuration/drivers etc etc..

Since the implementation in Octorber, we haven't face any performance issue, clients connected in an open SSID and are prompted from ISA server to supply their credentials as it's setup in client's browser.

The only things we have added/changed are the following;

1. Introduced three SSIDs with L3 WebAuth.
2. All  three SSIDs are authenticated against Radius server 2003 with two  profiles only, each limited to security group which are allowed to be  authenticated. 
3. Clients complained/frustrated as soon as the WiFi session expired, they have to be authenticated again therefore, and based on @scott recommendation, I have enabled the Sleeping Mode option in only two SSIDs.

How  the sleeping Mode works? does it disconnect the clients only from the  AP and retain the session in the controller, and upon client reconnects  the session will resume again?

I'm afraid that the sleeping session will be attached to the AP itself which causes the lack of performance on the client sides..

Any other recommendation to be checked other than the sleeping mode? I will reduce the number of hours to 1 hour only instead of 12 hours.
