In central switching, why do we need layer 3 on wlc?

It depends on what WLC and the topology. For AirOS WLC like 3504, 5520, etc we creste Dynamics interface which is layer3. This is required in order for the WLC ask for service on behalf of clients. 

For WLC 9800 you dont need It anymore.
