Intermittent wireless connection

Dear Sir,

My company has setup wireless LAN for the past one year. Each floor has one AP 1200. The connection is fine and the quality is satisfactory. We have a mixture of wireless clients such as Cisco, 3Com, Agere and third party vendor.

We are using 128-bit WEP and no Radius server is used.

Recently, just my floor faced intermittent wireless connection. Only a few clients are connected. The rest is having difficulty of connecting to it. We have resetted it a few times but the symptom still persists. The current software platform is VxWorks and its version is 12.01T. No logs that are able to help me to troubleshoot further,

I have checked the interference level using AirMagnet tool. But the level of noise was minimal and i doubt that interference is the main cause.

Then I converted the software platform to IOS. However, the result is the same. Our floor still experience intermittent problem.

What else can I do next? I have swapped the production AP with another AP. I am still monitoring the wireless connection.

Thanks.

Delon

Check for interference near or around the clients to see if there is anything affecting them instead of the AP. Check to make sure that there has not been any electrical devices placed near the AP. You can also try changing the radio channel to see if that helps the connectivity. Because you're using a mixture of clients I would try and disable the Aironet Extensions. It helped me out when dealing with some Intel clients.

Agree with the other replies...I would also check firmware on the client network adaptors as well.

Another thing you can do is swap out the ap with another and see if the problem goes away. You may have a faulty ap.
