MU-MIMO access point question.

Hi Folks,

I have a question related to a MU-MIMO (Cisco 1830 LAP) access point. But I think this applies to all MU-MIMO access points.

Could a MU-MIMO access point serve a 802.11g and 802.11n/ac clients simulteniously? Thank you.

Ok - crossed wires a little here. “MU-MIMO” usually refers to a feature in 802.11AC.

What you mean is ‘does an AP use both 2.4/5GHz radios simultaneously?’ The answer is yes; both radios are always on and can talk to clients in their own band without impact from the other radio.

MU-MIMO is an AC concept, so no it won’t work for n(5GHz) Clients. That doesn’t impact / have anything to do with any 2.4GHz stuff though, which will continue unhindered regardless of what’s happening at 5GHz.

Hi Richard. I'm not sure if did understand you.

"MU" can support multliple clients. So if there is one client that works on 2.4GHz and another on 5GHz, I expect the "MU" dual-band access point to serve them simultaneously. One antenna would be using 802.11g and another 802.11ac. It is like having two routers in one box.

Hi Richard.

Yes, this is what I wanted to know. Thank you.
