Private IP addresses are unroutable and require NAT translations to allow connections to the outside world. If your network does not require connections to the outside world you can very well goahead and use the private addresses. If you require connections to the outside world, you will have to enable NAT at the edge of the network to convert the private addresses into public addresses. Hope it clarifies.
