Hi guys,

Could you please send me some advice how I can design a wireless lan network for 70-80 active clients?

How I can read about wireless designing more?

Which devices should I use for this?

What is the best practice?

Many thanks,

Steve

What's your budget?

As low as possible of course like everytime , but I interest more possible realization.

The first is the solution, bugdet is secondary. Ideally and low budget too.

If it's not a problem.

Thank you for your reply.

Ok, so you'll need to start with George's PDF document below.

Once you've done your "list" then we can tackle whether you want a/b/g, a/b/g/n, a/b/g/n with CleanAir.   This will decide the model of WAP you need and how many.  It will also decide if you need a wireless LAN controller or not.

Forgot to ask what is the health of your LAN?  What kind of switch do you have?  10/100BaseTx or 10/100/1000BaseTx (aka triple speed).

Some general rules of thumb ..

General wifi -- 20 clients per ap
Use both 2.4 and 5 ghz bands
Try and standardize on supplicant where you can

We have a 10 Mbps Internet connection only. We use cisco catalyst 3560 switches in wired area.

Actually speed of the clients are not so important, but the stability.

If it's fair for websurfing and no disconnects, It will be more then enough to me.

Are you switch PoE?

What Ethernet port will you use to connect the WAP?   10/100BaseTx or 10/100/1000BaseTx (aka triple speed).

To get you started you can start with the Cisco high density deign guide

http://www.cisco.com/web/strategy/docs/education/cisco_wlan_design_guide.pdf

What kind of environment is this and what type of data will be used ie voice, video, web surfing ?

Oh thanks for this documentation. I will read it immediatly.

The enviroment is an office with approximatly 20 desk computers (primary wifi connection), 20 desk computers (secondary connection is the wifi), 15 laptops (primary wifi), and 30-40 mobiles/tablets. The clients are use wifi generally (youtube, websurfing).

The size of the office is 10m x 60m.

And the height?

You wouldn't happen to have a floor plan, by any chance, would you?

The height is 5m.

I have no floor plan. Sorry.
