WPA-PSK and fast roaming

Hi forum,

Sorry if I am duplicating the message, but the original did not show up.

If I have understood the Cisco fast secure roaming concept correctly the clients must authenticate using EAP protocols meaning that if I am using WPA-PSK then I am not able to implement fast secure roaming. Right?

Am I also right that to use CCKM the clients must be CCXv3 compliant?

The question is then how do I implement a fast roaming (“not secure”) setup using Cisco AP 1310 access points. The clients will be non Cisco (Symbol and Psion Teklogix handheld terminals).

The roaming should be fast enough to ensure that my socket connections are maintained.

Is that possible?

I do not have AAA servers at the local sites and I will not rely on using the central AAA server as we should be able to run even when the WAN links are down.

Thanks in advance

Flemming

I do not see a need for fast secured roaming if you use WPA-PSK. During roaming for 802.1x types, the delay is introduced when the AP is communicating with the radius server.

If you use WPA-PSK, there is no communication between the AP and the radius server.
