have you done a site survey to rule out coverage related?
TAC recommended version is 8.5.151.0 (https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless/wireless-lan-controller-software/200046-tac-recommended-aireos.html)
Issue happening on 2.4 or 5GHz or both?
Seen in warehouses that 2.4 is quite often has large amounts of interference, can you try 5Ghz

On the XT15 under the power save option, do you have the choice to set it to CAM?
I have seen in the past where if you disable the setting, the device follows the power options generic to the device. So for example if the screen sleeps after 30 seconds it will sleep the radio as well.
If you are using an old style "telnet" application with no session persistence it can cause chaos for the end users. Also if the device moves in the building during a screen power save when it powers back up it then does a full re association to the wireless rather than a "roam"
CAM mode will never allow the radio to shut down unless the battery is dead. Other processes can be asleep on the device but the radio will always be on.
