ACE module context on bridged mode

I am desiging a topology with two Cat 6509 and Two ACE Module, one ACE per Catalyst. I am thinking to  use bridge mode for the customer contexts, I would like to know if the Bridged mode is an Assymetric topology.

The server gateway is the ip address of the ACE or the Router?

Hi,

The server gateway is the IP address of the router. You just have to make sure that the server in the Bridged VLAN are isolated from the client VLAN.

So it would be like this :

Client VLAN ( vlan 10 ) >>> ACE >>> Server VLAN ( VLAN 20 )

This is well explained in this doc :

http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Basic_Load_Balancing_Using_Bridged_Mode_on_the_Cisco_Application_Control_Engine_Configuration_Example

Please let me know if you have some more specific questions.

Hi,

Thanks you for the information but I have another question, Bridge mode is asymetric or symetric topology?

I attached a jpg from the topology.

Im using vlan 302 for client and vlan 1302 for servers vlan. vlan 302 and 1302 for interface bridge 0  with  the ip address 172.24.160.11.

VIP:172.24.160.20.

Im going to create 15 Contexts.

We are in desing mode, but i have dude, if this could works fine. any suggestions.?

Fidel Gonzalez

Hi

Bridge mode is symmetric topology. As long as server and client are in two different vlan. Also the server vlan should not be created on switch. The vlan should only be created on ACE and allocated to ACE.

This allow server traffic to reach directly to ACE.

This should work if everything is configured properly.

Ajay,

Thanks you for the information, but  i dont understand when you write  that the server vlan must be created on the ACE.  I would like to know what is the flow of the packet  in this topology?

I would like to know what happen if I setting up the ACE ip as gateway for the Servers?

Hi,

Usually in routed mode we create VLAN on ACE as well as on switch and then forward all the traffic from switch to ACE.

But in Bridge mode we do not create server VLAN on switch, we just create VLAN on ACE.

That way any traffic coming from servers will go directly to the ACE.

Thanks you....

I have another dude.

I need to design an escenario, where the Lan Servers  are  in other Router, the conexion between the ACE module and the Lan Server is throught a routing protocols using a Layer 3 device like an ASA.

I have a confusion of using a Context in routed mode or One Armed mode. i dont know what is the best option.

I need help.

Attached a Diagram of the  escenarios.

Thanks you in advanced.
