I have 2 css 11051's using virtual routers and
redundant-vips. Each running version 5.00 Build
105. Lately the backup css is becoming master
for a second then notices duplicate ip's and
goes back to being the backup. I see messages in the logs for each virtual router like this:
MAY 5 12:35:33 5/1 8644 VRRP-4: Virtual router 24: master on interface 10.0.1.249^M
MAY 5 12:35:33 5/1 8645 VRRP-4: Virtual router 22: master on interface 10.0.2.249^M
MAY 5 12:35:38 5/1 8653 VRRP-4: Virtual router 24: backup on interface 10.0.10.249^M
MAY 5 12:35:38 5/1 8654 VRRP-4: Master is 10.0.1.249^M
MAY 5 12:35:38 5/1 8655 VRRP-4: Virtual router 22: backup on interface 10.0.2.249^M
MAY 5 12:35:38 5/1 8656 VRRP-4: Master is 10.0.2.248^M
MAY 5 12:35:39 5/1 8671 IPV4-4: Duplicate IP address detected: 10.0.1.250 xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-16^M
MAY 5 12:35:39 5/1 8672 IPV4-4: Incoming CE 0x1001f00, incoming (0 based) SLP 0x4^M
MAY 5 12:35:39 5/1 8673 IPV4-4: Duplicate IP address detected: 10.0.2.250 xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-14^M
Virtual-router config is as follows:
Master:
circuit VLAN50
ip address 100.3.248 255.255.255.0
ip virtual-router 50 priority 255 preempt
ip redundant-interface 50 10.0.3.250
ip redundant-vip 50 10.0.3.13
On backup:
circuit VLAN50
ip address 10.0.3.249 255.255.255.0
ip virtual-router 50 priority 100
ip redundant-interface 50 10.0.3.250
ip redundant-vip 50 10.0.3.13
The vrrp flip only occurs for about a
second and the master doesn't seem affected
but some traffic is routing through the
"backup" at the time. Has anyone seen
something like this with virtual-routers?
I know of problems with box to box redundancy
in versions other than 5.00 and 6.10 but
haven't seen anything about this. No network
input/output errors or duplex mismatches
either so don't think its anything external.
Thanks

Can you use a Sniffer to monitor the VRRP traffic to confirm none of it is lost (multicast)? I've had a similar problem which was due to a bug with the ethernet interface locked at 100-Full. I configured it to AUTO and everything started working properly again.

I've just kicked off some snoops. My virtual
routers are on more than one interface. It seems
odd that if one had an issue that each
virtual-router would failover. I do have
all the interfaces locked at 100-full though.
Thanks

Well, looks like I had something funky going on.
While suspending a group today, my master
css-11051 crashed.
