Hi,
I just received a WAS-612-K9, old but new. Meaning this had been bought a year ago but was not configured. Now I have tasked of upgrading to a higher version. My question is, do I need a CM to configure the IP so I can download the new version or I could just use CLI, add an IP address and download the latest version 4.2.1.38-k9.
thanks in advance.
regards,
Eduard

Hi Eduard,
In order to upgrade the WAE you can either use the Rescue CD or transfer the image file via FTP. Both procedures are documented in the upgrade guide:
If you download the ISO file from Cisco.com and burn it on a CD, you don't need to configure an IP Address on the WAE interface prior to the upgrade, however if you decide to upgrade using FTP then you should have a console connection to the WAE in order to configure initial IP address in its interface. Once you have IP connectivity to the WAE you can either configured an external FTP server to copy the file to the appliance or you can enable the WAE's FTP server and upload the file from a PC. If the WAE is already registered to a Central Manager you can also create a "Job" for this upgrade from the Central Manager GUI.
Moreover, since this appliance is a 612 model, please review the following document to verify if you must use the Rescue CD for upgrade:

1. Go to Cisco.com and if you have a Service Contract with Cisco download the
ISO .
2. Once you download the ISO burn to disk
3. Put disk in 612 press option 8 and follow the steps
4. Walla its upgraded.
or if you have a CM and the bin image upgrade from the Manager
