WAE 7371 connected to Nexus 7k

What is the best practice regarding interface speed and duplex issues when connecting a Cisco WAE appliance to a Nexus 7k.  Should both interfaces be set to auto/auto on both devices or should the speed and duplex settings be hard coded?

Hi David,

Well, the settings depends on your choice.

Auto/Auto : will do automatic negotiations and in case anything changes you wouldn't have to worry.

Hard-coded : You would need to check everything manually and then match everything wrt to the other end.

Its all by the admins choice but its better to do it the hard-coded way as you have the info about the interface settings and thus inn case anything happens, you would have the idea of whats going on at the interface level.

Hi,

Running Gigabit Ethernet over copper (1000Base-T) actually states that autonegotiation is mandatory.

Some Cisco Platforms/Line Cards actually does not support manually specifying duplex and Speed, though the N7K does not seem to be part of those.

Also, by disbling auto-negotiation, you will loose some flowcontrol options and Remote Fault Information features.

So my recommendation would be to go for the autonegotiation setup.

If two very expensive Cisco platform are having problems in 2013 with this ... call TAC ;-)

It should always be hard coded. otherwise you will run into issues. this is from past experience
