Failed to register Smart License through transport gateway mode

Prime Infrastructure can no longer register using Smartnet portal or satellite.

This is unacceptable mishandling of upgrade process.

Cisco is asking me to revert back to Traditional Licensing.

Does anyone know how to go from SmartNet to Traditional?

This is version 3.10 and this cert method still fails to send registration.

I have a customer who has just upgraded from 3.8 to 3.10 (update1) and matched this but as they get the error message "unable to register to the smart licensing protal".

 

As they have a VM version they can spin back up the original version of 3.8.

 

My query is that there is "no workaround" or fix for.

 

Do we know when Cisco maybe reviewing this issue and what timescales are we to expect for a fix?

I have the same issue with several customers and different Versions (3.9 latest patch & 3.10 latest patch)

Smart Licensing is not working...

Connectivity can be successfully tested, but registration is failing "Registration failed due to Communication send error."

Neither with a direct connection nor via proxy.

 

My customer now has this issue resolved.

I raised this with TAC and the assigned engineer appeared to be aware of the issue.

 

The problem appears to be with the "call_home_ca" certificates.

Cisco TAC provided a replacement file which was basically several certificates merged together like a .PEM

The instructions were OK but TAC actually applied the file on behalf of my customer over WebEX.

 

Backup the existing call_home_ca file, then replace the replacement call home file to the existing one located at /opt/CSCOlumos/licenses/ location  update the file permission as below and restart the ncs services

 

(chmod 755 call_home_ca & chown prime:gadmin call_home_ca)

-rwxrwxr-x. 1 prime gadmin 19812 Feb 17 20:29 call_home_ca

I have followed your steps by adding to the file and tried registering. This has failed. Then I restarted the Prime services and I was able to register after that. Below are the steps I followed.

Hello,

I had the same issue (running Prime 3.10) and unfortunatly the previous method didn't work. I will provide you what worked for me.

TAC assisted me and I was able to make the registration working. This is how the we proceeded :

  1. Go in shell mode and type the following commands :
  2. cd /opt/CSCOlumos/licenses/
  3. cp /opt/CSCOlumos/licenses/call_home_ca /opt/CSCOlumos/licenses/call_home_ca.bak
  4. > call_home_ca
  5. Copy and paste the content of the "CA certificate.txt" file into the call_home_ca
    1. vi call_home_ca
    2. Type "i" to enter the insert mode
    3. Paste the content of the file
    4. Type :wq to exit and save the file
  6. chmod 755 call_home_ca
  7. chown prime:gadmin call_home_ca
  8. sudo su admin
  9. ncs stop
  10. ncs start

After that it should work !
