Hi all, I implement stack for cisco switch. Now I am considering about 2 model 9200 and 1300, I know 9200 is better but it is over buget. So, I try to find out with 1300 can also reach specification. My question is what key different stack feature between 9200 and 1300? what I found on internet is:

- 9200 is hot standby configure: mean when active unit fail, standby will take control without interrupt.

-1300 is not hot standby configure: mean when the active unit fail, standby may take less than 1min to take control, during that time the management function will interrupt but the data transfer will not interrupt.

is above information correct? I really concern about data transfer will not interrupt when failover happen.

Hello @hung-vuduy

Yes, c9200 supports sso for seamless control plane failover...while C1300 does not support sso and experience a brief control plane interruption during failover.

Hello @hung-vuduy

Your understanding is correct,  Catalyst 9200 One switch is active, another is fully synchronized as a standby On failure, standby takes over instantly (sub-second).

C1300 does not support hot standby. There’s no synchronized control plane. When the active unit fails, another switch must initialize as the new master. This process takes time (up to a minute). During that time, the Data plane may continue, but Management access is interrupted

hi M02@rt37,

Thank for your reply. I concern about data plane (the data transfer and recieve between hosts) is interuppt or not?

@hung-vuduy

Only the control-plane is briefly affected.

Hello @mafzal

CBS 1300 does not exist. You mean Catalyst 1300 ?

M02@rt37  I was referring to the Cisco Catalyst 1300 Series switches, not "CBS ". Thank you for catching that!
