DNAC Onboarding Error on New Replacement AP Cisco C9120AXI-S

Did attempted to onboard new Cisco C9120AXI-S but getting Error:Onboarding in place of faulty same model of AP in DNAC. We set the proper discovery parameters but to no avail. Version 2.3.5.5 is running on DNAC. We have factory defaulted the AP before connecting to switch and then tried discovering by DNAC. Appreciate anyone can share on the steps or guides in replacing AP via DNAC.

Did you double check which IOS is bringing the new AP? Only certain IOS-XE are supported: Cisco Catalyst Center Compatibility Matrix

Hi jmanzanera,

Thank you for the prompt response.

I checked the current AP version is 8.10.130.0 which is not compatible with DNAC version .

Maybe can share on how to perform upgrade of AP perhaps via DNAC since we already mounted this AP.

Appreciate also if anyone did the onboarding before via DNAC.

Thank you.

Hi @bong31

Not sure which version you need to use, but I think you have 2 options here:
1/ Open a TAC case requesting which is the exact process. I'm guessing they can provide you the correct AP image and you can push it directly to the AP using the archive /download option.
2/ Download the EWC image needed to the AP, convert the AP to EWC with new image to force the upgrade. After that convert it to capwap mode and your DNAC can be onboarded. You need to be carefull here as a new WLC will be pushed in your network and it can cause some issues.

On the other hand, I'm wondering if you don't have any WLC9800 that you can connect the AP for upgrade without passing through the DNAC.

Update: DNAC TAC pointed us to Workflows > Replace Device... and we are able to onboard the replacement APs.

Thank you guys.
