I am looking for support regarding setting up external configuration archive in Catalyst Center. Is it possible to use windows machine for network devices configuration archiving externally. Also pls share any relevant documents.

I would recommend installing filezila on windows and enabling sftp:

On cisco catalyste center the steps are the following: Go to System->settings -> Configuration archive:
External repository -> Add -> Input all your data + setup a backup cycle.

I don't believe there is a simple way to make backups of the configurations saved by the Catalyst Center, except for the regular Catalyst Center system backup.

I think a better way to go is to push templates that configure the archive feature on your devices. This way they will upload their config to an external repository themselves. That config would look something like this:

archive
 path ftp:/your-repo
 time-period 120
 write

This will upload a configuration archive every 120 minutes, and each time the configuration is saved to memory.

Hello!

Yes you can use an windows machine running a SFTP server. The configuration should be setup inside cisco catalyst center under system settings -> Configuration archive.

This is not working for me.  I am running Solarwinds SFTP server on a Windows 11 workstation with the root directory of C:\SFTP-Root.  I enter all of the information and continue to get the same error over and over.

Yet when I manually SFTP a file from a switch to the SFTP server, it works normally.

EDIT....I had to add a subdirectory to the SFTP root directory like C:\SFTP-Root\configs and then set the root to \configs in the configuration archive setup.  Working fine now.
