upgrade cisco intersight appliance

Is the upgrade of the appliance only through an ova file? or is there an in place upgrade within the appliance i can update the appliance

OVA files are only used to deploy the appliance, not update it.

By default, the connected appliance will automatically update itself. if you don’t want to do automatic updates on your CVA, or have a PVA, see https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/unified_computing/Intersight/b_Cisco_Intersight_Appliance_Getting_Started_Guide/m_updating_the_intersight_virtual_appliance_software.html on how to manually update the appliance.
