Cisco 6807 VSS upgrading

Networker A!
Level 1
Level 1

Hi,

We are trying to upgrade our 6807 VSS switches to 15.5(1) sy4, we run now on version 15.2(1)SY7.
As far as we know that we cannot run ISSU, thus we tried with an upgrade via changing the boot parameter.
We reboot after changing the boot command and it seems as the upgrading process go through, however we see a warning messages in the log that state :

Jan 16 06:18:58.403: %C6K_PLATFORM-DFC1-2-CRITICAL_FPGA_UPGRADE:
************************ !! UPDATE REQUIRED !! ************************

Critical firmware upgrade available for Module: 1.
Please refer Software release documentation for more information.

******************************************************************
******************************************************************

We followed some instructions that guided us to run two or more commands of upgrading the FPGA as following :

upgrade winters-flash switch switch-number slot slot-number bundled-image
hw-module switch switch-no module module-no reset

Still we couldn't get rid of the warning messaegs, we get the from module 1 and module 2 on both switches.

Any idea ? is this an operation critical message ? we don't want to risk starting upgrading in our production network.

Thank you in advanced !

Regards

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

Dear,

We uploaded the new image to all the bootflashes, and then we changed the boot so that it points towards the new image then restarted the VSS switches.

Yes, it is quad supervisors ( two supervisors each 6807 switch).

I will try to post the show modules output soon.

Regards

wait for your show modules to give you right suggestion

Dear,

We got those messages after we were done with the upgrading, we therefore thought to reload the VSS to see if those messages will disappear, but they didn't, we can still see those messages even after we reloaded the VSS.

Furthermore, every time we reload those modules, example with the command 'hw-module switch switch-no module module-no reset' we get those log message of 'Update required' so we don't know how to get rid of those messages.

What we want make sure is that, those messages should not have any further negative consequences on the functionality of the VSS.

Correct us if we are wroing, but we are just thinking weather those messages have something to do with Firmware version (FW) of  15.1(58r)SYL and/or 12.2(50r)SYS see the previous output of 'sho module switch 1' please.

We are unsure whether to go back to the previous version, or just neglect those messages and continue with the upgrade as is.

Suggestion for solution ?

Thank you in advanced !

Regards

is module 1 the supervisor? If so, check the release notes for ROMMON requirements in v15.5.1 and make sure you're good on that.

if mod 1 is not a supervisor, then you still need to issue the sho mod command and check the ROM version on the linecards, and upgrade that if necessary.

Module 1 is not a supervisor, hmm let me check that, do you have any link to a post that I can check further ?

Thank you !

I'm having the same problem when upgrading to the version 15.5(1)SY4 on my VSS C6807 switch

I tried to follow the below link provided by cisco, but the issue persist.

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/15-5SY/config_guide/sup6T/15_5_sy_swcg_6T/enhanced_fast_software_upgrade_efsu.html

I'm always getting the same issue.
