Problems with Packet Tracer on Linux - Installation & Segmentation Fault

Hello,

My name is Adam and I am a Cisco CCNA(S) Instructor at my local Academy.

I use Linux OS a lot and I need Packet Tracer to function correctly on this OS.

Installation on Windows OS is working perfectly and the application is running OK.

However, installation on Linux (Ubuntu) is a little buggy.

I've identified 2 problems. For the first, I have discovered a workaround, but for the other one, the solution still eludes me.

The 1st problem:

Installation is not smooth and is buggy.

I download the DEB file, I run it with "dpkg -i ....deb" and at first, it fails because of some dependecies that wont' install.

After the installer exists, I must run "apt --fix-broken install" . This installs the dependencies correctly.

After that, I must re-run the Packet Tracer installer and this time it installs correctly.

Question: Isn't Packet Tracer tested on Ubuntu systems ? It seems totally unprofessional...

The 2nd problem:

Installation of Cisco Packet Tracer on XUbuntu with XFCE desktop is Segfaulting.

After installing the application using the above procedure, when I start the application, it says something like:

Starting Packet Tracer 8.0.0

/usr/local/bin/packettracer: line 8: 4448 Segmentation fault (core dumped) ./PacketTracer "$@" > /dev/null 2>&1

I really need Packet Tracer on this laptop running XUbuntu 20.04 LTS.

Can anyone help?

Thank you !

Adam.
