Hello,
Is there an Android (or other smartphone like Apple) client that works with Mobile Voice Access? I've found out that in CUCM 6 there used to be a smartphone client, but it's been replaced by Jabber. But Jabber only works over data, so it doesn't use MVA. However, calling over 3G isn't supported. People sometimes require extra features like putting callers on hold and transfering them to internal destinations from their mobile phones, or just being able to call internal destinations. Is there any client available for Cisco systems that supports these features over the regular GSM network?

MVA is not a client is a TCL application running on voice gateway that works with CUCM and allows you to call in from anywhere, any phone. You allocate a DID to MVA and provide it to users to dial into, it lets you use the feature you are asking for for dual stage dialing. Let us know if you had something else in mind.

Hi Ruud,
You do not need any client for MVA. MVA is used when you call MVA number via PSTN network .
Or may be I am missing your point here.

Indeed, MVA is just a number available through the PSTN. However, it's quite a hassle for people to call in to that number first, and then start dialing the 4-digit internal number of the colleague they are trying to reach. Also, it's nearly impossible for non-technical people to remember *81 puts someone on hold.
It would be a lot nicer if some application would exist that has a shell around this. Just dial the internal 4-digit number, select that you want to call through the PBX instead of directly, and the program will automatically connect to the MVA number and call that 4-digit number. And one you are connected, it would be nice to have hold and transfer buttons, instead of having to type *81 and *84 to transfer. So basically, a shell around the MVA features.

That is where Jabber comes in and that is the future direction for mobile smartphone devices. It does work over the data connection as you point out, either wifi if you are within a network premise or 3G/4G over VPN. The old client your are referring to was Mobile Communicator which also required data connection for these features, the only difference was it required front end CUMA server in DMZ which was messy.
How would you expect to get these features without data connection? Your only other technical possibility;lity would be to run it over modem connection from the phone which would require nailed down connection at all times.

In the current public Jabber for Android version, it's not supported to call over 3G. Also, 3G coverage is far from optimal, GSM has way less coverage holes.
Other PBX vendors like Alcatel allow these features by using DTMF codes. They have clients available that send these DTMF codes on the push of a button, so people don't have to remember any of these codes theirselves.
