this is for cucm ver 8.6.1; and the only permissible characters that are possible are;
Number Begins With
Enter the initial digits of the directory numbers to which you want to apply this application dial rule.
Valid characters include numeric digits (0-9), plus sign (+), asterisk (*), and number sign (#). Be aware that you cannot enter more than 50 characters in this field.
() and - are not treated as permissible entries as per this link.
